Queer Asian Therapist in Miami, FL

Welcome home.

I’m Dr. Wonbin. I am a licensed marriage and family therapist, and I am here to help you navigate your complex journey of emotional and relational wellbeing.

As a queer Asian first-generation immigrant therapist, I am committed to understanding and honoring your intersectional identities, experiences, and relationships.

I consider myself a co-pilot on your journey of self-discovery, self-compassion, self-understanding, and self-awareness, and that is a gift that I will forever hold dear to my heart.

I have been trained as a brief systemic therapist who detects the patterns in people’s relationships with themselves, the world around them, and others. But really, I am a relational therapist who sees the connections and themes between stories and relationships.

My goal as a therapist is to intently listen, thoughtfully respond, and curiously ask questions to bring out all the hidden parts of your story so that your stories go from being silenced and invisible to being out in the open, listened to, and honored.

In the traditional mental health spaces, your stories are pathologized and your experiences are reduced to a single mental health diagnosis. In my work with you, I will not only see your experiences of disappointments, sadness, and pain, but I also witness your stories of success, contentment, and joy that I often utilize in helping you interrupt the patterns that perpetuate the pain that you are going through.

My clients and colleagues often describe me as:

  • Kind, compassionate, and non-judgmental

  • Thought-provoking and curious

  • A holder of emotionally safe space for their relationships to experience growth

  • Unafraid of going to where clients want to go therapeutically

  • Direct and challenging at times

My specialties are:

  • Gender, Sexual, and Racial Identity Exploration

  • Integration of Faith and Sexuality

  • Religious Trauma and Deconstructing Faith

  • Intergenerational Trauma

  • Asian American experiences

  • Adult Third Culture Kids’ experiences (Growing up in a country that is not your passport country or in a culture that is different from the culture in your home)

  • Intimacy issues & Relational Sex Therapy (Rigid sex script, performance anxiety, and communication)

  • Couples exploring polyamory and open relationships

  • LGBTQ+ and Asian American couples having difficulty connecting emotionally and in-law issues

When I am not with clients:

  • I love going kayaking or going to the beach with my wife.

  • I love going to new coffee shops around the Bay area.

  • I travel to give presentations/lectures internationally and nationally on the topics of sexuality and mental health.

  • I binge-watch House Hunters International and daydream about living abroad. :)
