A SPECIALIZED CARE FOR LGBTQ+ ASIAN AMERICANS

Therapy where all of your parts are welcome

I know what it’s like to live with shame and not to feel safe in my own skin. You may be thinking that if you finally live your life in a way that honors who you are, you might lose the people you love — such as your parents or your community.

Through my own experience of coming out and living my life fully, I wanted to create a space for queer Asians who struggle to love themselves and celebrate their love, often hindered by cultural, religious, familial, and societal expectations.

I’m here to help you navigate one of the most challenging journeys you may be on — not only to come out of the closet, but to treat yourself with love and compassion that you deserve.

This is a place where all of your parts are welcome — your Asian, queer, religious, cultural, gender, and all other identities.

Whether you are coming out in your 20s or in your 50s, your coming out is not just a proclamation of who you are, but it is a journey of coming home to yourself.

I not only understand the challenges that queer Asians experience, but I also have firsthand experience of figuring out my queer identity, coming out, dealing with the loss of relationships, and coming to terms with the cost of being queer and being Asian.

You may have come out to yourself and a few friends that you trust, and you are wondering if and when you may be able to tell your family that you are queer/trans. You tell yourself, “I’ll come out if/when I am in a serious queer relationship,” but it stings your heart when you think about the possibility of losing your family. You feel paralyzed and do not know where to start.

That is where I come in. I gently walk you through what has been getting in the way of you living as your authentic self — heternormativity, cultural conditioning, and internalized homophobia/transphobia — to name a few.

I can help you deconstruct and deprogram from the beliefs that being queer is somehow less than and that it must be kept in secret until there is no other choice. From there, we can rebuild a life that you choose for yourself, not the life that you have been told to live by your cultural conditioning, your family, and our society as a whole.

I approach your stories with a deep, respectful curiosity that lets us dive into untold, silenced parts of your life so you can finally name it, tell it and own it.

Hi! I’m Dr. Wonbin (she/her).

Licensed Marriage & Family Therapist with both clinical and research expertise in LGBTQ+ sexuality and identity integration work

I've spent the past decade walking alongside LGBTQ+ Asian individuals and queer couples as they navigate healing from trauma, anxiety, identity struggles, and relationship ruptures. My training has centered around systemic, relational, and trauma-informed care, with a strong grounding in justice and liberation-based frameworks. As a queer Asian therapist, I understand the nuances of cultural expectations, silence, and survival — not just theoretically, but personally. That lived experience fuels my commitment to providing therapy that is identity-affirming, decolonizing, and deeply rooted in curiosity and compassion.
