Feeling Disconnected in Your Relationship?
Even when you love each other, being in a queer relationship can feel overwhelming — especially for Asian American couples navigating cultural pressure, family expectations, and unspoken trauma.
Are you experiencing:
- Constant miscommunication or conflict cycles?
- Emotional distance or avoidance during intimacy?
- Shame, shutdown, or fear around sex and touch?
- Tension about being “out” with family or community?
- Repeating relational patterns that feel stuck or painful?
The Unique Challenges of Queer Asian Relationships
As a queer Asian therapist, I see how my clients identities shape how they give and receive love. In my practice, I work with queer couples navigating:
- Internalized homophobia and sexual shame
- Intergenerational and religious trauma
- Cultural values like filial piety, silence, and respectability
- Racialized dating dynamics and body image concerns
- Pressure to conform to heteronormative or cis-normative expectations
- Family rejection & intergenerational trauma that affects the ways couples connect
- Repetitive conflict that leaves you feel shut down
My Approach to Couples Therapy:
I integrate three evidence-based models of therapy:
- Internal Family Systems (IFS) – to explore how past wounds and protective parts show up in the relationship
- Emotionally Focused Therapy (EFT) – to rebuild emotional safety and secure bonding
- Gottman Method Couples Therapy – to improve communication, conflict resolution, and connection
All sessions are trauma-informed, queer-affirming, and grounded in an anti-oppressive lens.
